Refugee from Dagestan detained in Belgium. After extradition to Russia, he faces execution

Publication time: 8 September 2010, 15:26

Sources of the Kavkaz Center reported that a 33 year-old Dagestani Adjiyev Umala had been detained on August 6 in Brussels, Belgium.

He came to a local police station after receiving an invitation and was arrested on the spot.

It is already known that in his case, Russia has issued a so called "international search request" and submitted it to Belgian authorities. According to close relatives of Adjiyev Umalat, there is a real threat of his extradition to Russia where he will be executed by Russian FSB terrorists.

When he lived in Dagestan, he was kidnapped by the FSB and exposed to severe tortures. He is a practicing Muslim, which made Russian occupiers to suspect him of loyalty to the Mujahideen.

He was released from prison in 2006 and immediately left Dagestan in hope to find a refuge for himself and his family in Belgium. Now it is clear that his hopes were in vain. Belgian authorities have arrested a refugee and are willing to hand him over to Russia where Adjiyev will share the fate of hundreds of other Muslims killed and tortured to death by Russian occupiers for a mere fact of practicing Islam.

Close relatives of Adjiyev call upon all those who are somehow able to help to stop the extradition of a refugee, to act and not to allow the extradition of an innocent Muslim to a sure death.
